Once & Future by A.R. Capetta, Cory McCarthy
4.0
A lot of people said that this book gives them whiplash as it goes from something serious to suddenly something pretty funny. I would have to disagree. The book has plenty of hilarious moments, even ones where I was sending them to my friends, who haven't read the book. But this book also takes pauses for the very serious parts, especially towards the end of the book. I can't tell you how many times I nearly cried while reading this. The book is a lot of fun and it's the perfect spot for someone who love Science-Fictions and Fantasy novels with LGBTQ representation in it. That was also the best part was that nearly everyone (except Kay, that I am aware of) is part of the community. A gay and pansexual main characters, nonbinary, bisexual, gay, and ace, supporting cast? Amazing. A world where being fluid and your sexuality doesn't matter? Where can I sign up?
This book also tackles some heavy topics, such as pollution, extortion (of people and the environment), depleting resources, genocide, and rebellion (esp in the face of capitalism).
Definitely a great, quick read. I cannot WAIT to get my hands on the second book.
