The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro
2.75

this started off as a charming fable about a sweet old couple, covering themes of memory (is it better to remember or are we happier and safer forgetting the past?). then it went on for too long. it felt like the theme was exhausted too quickly and the exploration didn't take the discussion far enough to make it continuously interesting. with a slower paced book, the saving grace has to be the characters, but i just felt too detached to properly care, though maybe that's on me for listening to the audiobook rather than reading a physical copy. the language is still lovely, and there are some great moments in there, but overall it didn't really click for me. however on the plus side i now really want to go and reread never let me go <33
