The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King by Carissa Broadbent
4.0
adventurous challenging dark emotional tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

It lost a star for me as while the reasoning to keep our fated star crossed lovers apart made logical sense, I'd just finished an entire book where we waited for them to get together for 400 pages, only to have to go through another 300 apart? It was too many pages apart for me. And it felt a lot like the 'just talk to each other' trope done in a way that again was logical but not necessarily believable for my taste for these characters. Had it been the first 150 pages, maybe I would have been more on board, but 300 pages in (almost half way through, that was too much)

I did however LOVE the continued world building, and I thought the conclusion was well played out. Was a huge Raihn fan. (yet again)

It's the second book in this genre with gods having a lot to do with the end which is interesting. And im enjoying the first book in the next duet already.
