nssutton 's review for:
My Real Children
by Jo Walton
Oh, this one - such lovely writing and beautiful storytelling. Walton draws two beautiful, rich, complex lives. The question she poses is such a challenge: is it better to have love in a wretched world, or to discover yourself later in life in a safe one? Along the way, she presents dementia, motherhood, and the challenges of a lesbian family trying to build a life in such a compelling manner. This story didn't rock me as much as Among Others, but I still found myself drawn to and lingering over that quiet beauty and strength she writes in her female characters.
