God I Feel Modern Tonight: Poems from a Gal about Town by Catherine Cohen

3.0

I enjoy Cat Cohen’s shows in NYC and I generally enjoy modern-girl poetry ~ this just didn’t rock my world like I hoped it might. There were clever bits, fun bits, shocking bits, a wide range of Instagram girl vibes. Very late 20s in New York which I can appreciate but a lot of it just didn’t necessarily feel like poetry to me…I was asking myself “ok but why this one?” a little too much. Totally my subjective opinion, I know! These poems have a stream of consciousness feel which I do sometimes enjoy. It was cool to see both sides of her, her confidence and uncertainty. The poems aren’t ever emotional but they are personal. An easy read, glad to have spent the afternoon with this, but not my favorite.
