Lucas by Jay McLean

5.0

"The sole of my single bloody shoe print leading to where I sit, like a road map to my demise, and I think about the only thing that makes sense.I think about her."

Is this an opening line or what ????

This book knocked my socks off and left me wanting moreeeeee. Lucas and Lois/Laney are riveting together and even apart. I also love that the book gave me their two perspectives as it allows the reader to connect much more deeply with the characters. I mean "Clark Kent and Lois Lane" Priceless. I also loved how we got to see them from the beginning and grow with them, "I was eleven and he was cute."

The connection also extended to the "L" family where I got some major family feels with their mom Kathy (still reeling from her) Logan with his bad boy demeanor "your mums a smelly old bitch" loved that line! Lachlan also stole my heart with his witty innocent, I sense a heart breaker when he grows up (sooooo cute even his baby talk). His parrot syndrome carried well throughout the story with repeats such as “sexing, sexing and Eat his booty like groceries" CLASSIC lol

Back to Lois and Lucas, boy oh boy *sigh* Lucy has some serious mama issues then meets Lucas who instantly becomes her bff/I am not good enough to be your boyfriend yet *super frustrating* This quote sums it up pretty well "Because that’s how we worked, Luke and me.He was a tease. And I was a joke." Then it progressed into some hot steamy naughty followed by a big can of NOPE.

Enter our quintessential bad boy Cooper who swoops in to rescue her from heartbreak but then proceeds to screw her up even more. Then as always in comes Lucas who I admit won me over with:

“Because I want to kiss you, Lane. Because I want to wipe the memory of every other asshole who’s ever touched these lips."

I really started hating him for his procrastination then he hits you with "SWOON"

“As much as I want this, want you, I can’t do it like this. When we do it again, I want to have earned it. I want it to mean everything. I don’t want us to walk away with any regrets. From now on, I’m going to do it right."

All the excitement aside I am so glad this book wasn't another conventional romance but really touched on some serious issues such as abuse. A powerful lesson was portrayed about people making excuses for those who abuse them and labeling it as love. When parents think actually “parenting” is too harsh. When you set a precedent for your children that when followed leads to destruction.

I really felt as if I was on an emotional roller coaster coming down to the end as it all hit so fast. WHAMMY, WHAMMY WHAMMY !

I cried like a bitch !!!!!!!! Lucas made some pretty powerful comments that literally tugged at my heart strings. The hospital confession had me literally sobbing with some serious feels in the chest "he puched me then f**ked me? " Talk about pulling the wool from everyones eyes I was like WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

I was really happy with the ending which is saying something and am super excited to read Logans story and everyone elses. This book was a total balance of funny wit, dark realities of life and steamy romance. I read a lot about the power and importance of family but I really think the author wove an amazing story!

Definitely wouldnt mind reading more "sexting" and ghetto rap. My favorite line is
"I guess it felt wrong to say it, but it definitely feels right to live it.”
