The Invisible Wall: A Love Story That Broke Barriers
by Harry Bernstein
It took me a long time to read this book. There were so many times that I wanted to shut it for good, but I kept reading it, in hopes that it would get better. It could have been a powerful memoir. The events he witnessed growing up are really incredible and worth sharing. But the story is just not told well at all. It lacks emotion. The narration is completely flat. Every time something tragic happened, I felt absolutely nothing for the characters. I had a hard time telling the neighbors apart from one another. The book, overall, is in need of some major editing. It wasn't until I was more than half way through the book that I finally became interested in the story, and even then, there were many things that bugged me. I had high expectations for this book when I started--perhaps too high--and I ended the book thoroughly disappointed
