Eye of the Needle
by Ken Follett
This was one of the tidiest novels I’ve ever read. Every scene has a point to make or a detail to add to the main plot and every character introduced is utilized in some way. There are no annoying dead ends or questions left unanswered after the final scene, which was really refreshing for a history/crime drama. It stays interesting and more or less unpredictable even when the audience already knows what the big picture end result will be.
I would have liked a little more of Faber’s perspective and rationale towards the end, but I understand the author wanting to keep the momentum of the finale going by staying with Lucy as the new main character.
