TW: parental neglect, parent with an addiction

The fake relationship blurb hooked me. Clay sneaking Giana's romance books to learn what she liked convinced me to read this. I really enjoyed reading about both of these characters. Both of them were on the other's radar prior to this book, but for other reasons, there was an internal appreciation for the other person. Clays' internal dialogue about Giana at the very beginning prior to their deal was adorable. This was the second book in a row where one main character reads another like a page in a book. There was minimal effort from Giana to see Clay for himself. I didn't full-out cry with this one, but I did get teary when Clay caused the black moment and was dealing with the aftermath. His friends came to him and made sure that he knew that they saw him for who he was and that they were there to help him. Because they weren't just friends, they were family, too. The grovel was very adorable and on point for this romance reader. I loved it. This whole book was a joy to read.
