Yes, definite HP correlations, but kind of like mixing content from all seven books into one much more condensed novel. This is book 1, so I'm expecting more originality and higher stakes in the next books in the series.
It's pretty cool Call is not able-bodied and that he let's the reader know when his leg still bothers him and prevents him from some major heroics towards the end of the book. It's an obvious reminder that not everyone is strong in similar ways and needs help from time to time. Being a member of a team definitely trumps being an individual in the IRON TRIAL.
All in all, decent start to a school fantasy series for the next generation of fans of that genre.
