Outstanding. I don't know how I hadn't read the work of Andrea Gibson before - I was really missing out. I always WANT to read more poetry, but am afraid I will have to think too hard and the meaning will go over my head. This book demanded me to think, but in a much more reflective way. I *wanted* to think about things - life, love, who matters, what matters... This also hit me in the feels way more than intended, and struck me in some pretty deep places. A poem or two may have left me sobbing, a few caught my breath, and another left me feeling really uncomfortable at how personal it felt. Gibson has a gift for intimately speaking of the ways in which we are human, and they have a gift for humanizing "others" - those who are different in political/moral beliefs or those who have deeply hurt us. Gibson is also to be looked up on Youtube, performing spoken poetry. This will definitely make my top 10 of 2023.
