i wasn't very invested in the romance itself, but it's fine since i cared for both of the characters individually. eddie truly is a sweetheart, and i wholeheartedly agree with all of the characters who expressed a wish to fold him up and put him in a pocket. that's exactly where he belongs.
the most notable strength of this book, at least for me, was the care with which the author handled the subject of mourning, and particularly the additional unfairness and heartache of having to grieve in secret. i can't remember if i've ever read any other book that touches upon that, but i would love to do so in the future. i also liked all the shirley jackson references!
