I absolutely freakin’ love this book! Read it for the first time as a Junior in high school, then used it for a literary criticism paper for one of my literature classes in college. Seriously one of my favorite American Classics.

It gives a really good insight to life of the working class (specifically, migrant farmers) in the United States during the Great Depression, and keeps to the general disheartened mood of those who were negatively effected by the depression. It also touches on developmental disabilities and how those with such disabilities were treated.

Beware: there are references of animal and character deaths in this book - both of which are graphic-ish
