A nonfiction account of the lives of the extremely poor in Mumbai, India. Written to chronicle a three year period in the late 2000s, the author explores the corruption of the legal system and the lack of order and kindness in the slums.

A well written account of real people and the customs and cultures that keep them from climbing out of the crushing grasp of poverty.

I have read depressing books before, Grapes of Wrath comes to mind. This one seemed worse, since it was true.
