Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

5.0

I know I am in the minority when I say this, but for me, the second installment in the Hunger Games trilogy is a great improvement upon the first novel. I originally gave the first instalment a three star rating as I found it an enjoyable read but ultimately fairly predictable, in that I knew Katniss and Peeta would somehow survive the games. This time around, Suzanne Collins has gone for the bigger and better style Hunger Games, where for a few moments, I actually wondered if Peeta was about to be killed off.
I also appreciated the more strategic aspect of the games this time around, where alliances are formed and Katniss is always worried about being double-crossed, it certainly added a new element, and oddly reminded me of the reality TV show Survivor, you know...if they were all kids and killing each other.
The setting this time around was also a nice change im comparison the the simple woods of the first novel, and this novel certainly has a more sci-fi feel to it. I'm interested to see the film adaptation, I really hope they make the arena as book-like as possible, and really hope they don't cheap out.
