Tales from the Perilous Realm
by J.R.R. Tolkien
A very good collection of Tolkien stories, illustrated by Alan Lee, the definitive (in my mind) Tolkien illustrator. The tone varies among them, and some definitely stray from the fairy-tale theme of the collection, but generally these are closer to [b:The Hobbit, or There and Back Again|5907|The Hobbit, or There and Back Again|J.R.R. After the stories there's the essay "On Fairy-stories" which is a bit dry, but certainly authoritative.
It's certainly not up there with his two monumental works, but still this is highly recommended if you want more Tolkien in your life, as I frequently do.
