This Is Our Rainbow: 16 Stories of Her, Him, Them, and Us
by Mark Oshiro, Katherine Locke, Claribel A. Ortega, Ashley Herring Blake, Nicole Melleby, Alex Gino, Aisa Salazar, Mariama J. Lockington, Shing Yin Khor, AJ Sass, Lisa Bunker, Lisa Jenn Bigelow, Marieke Nijkamp, Justina Ireland, Eric Bell, Molly Knox Ostertag
The only fair way to discuss an anthology of such diverse writing styles. genres, and characters is to go piece-meal by story. The collection is considerably strong when I evaluate it as a whole and I recommend it to fans of junior short stories and queer characters.
The Purr-cle of Life: 4/5
Loved that Alex Gino opened this book with a story that is more passively queer in a natural, accepted way and more about grief and new love. I liked it and it set a good tone for the collection.
Girl's Best Friend: 4/5
I hadn't heard of a squish until this story and loved seeing it as the focus as this read. It's very overtly queer platonic/ace to me. Cute though weird furry vibes?
The Makeover: 4/5
So cute!! This one follows young queer kids going thrifting together and helping a new friend figure out their aesthetic. Cozy ghost
