This book, just like the rest of Kristin Hannah’s books, was absolutely beautiful. I sobbed on multiple pages. *insert Ariana Grande half crying, half frowning gif* I literally made that face multiple times throughout reading this story.

Wow, how heartbreaking. I wanted to scream so many times because the reality of Elsa’s situation made me want to scream. I was so fucking angry. And it felt so incredibly relevant to the world we are living in now. Where we end up, with a discussion of how to fight against corporations, was so scarily authentic to where we are. We’re just right back at this. The idea that “the rich get richer, while we suffer” is so salient again. Reading this book was low key triggering, but also so powerful.

Ugh it’s so nice when books remind you why you love to read: to feel, to make sense of the world, and to empathize.
