If he were a flavor, he’d be diet vanilla. If he were a color, it would be beige. If he were a temperature, it would be tepid bathwater.
My heart is just FULL of emotions lollll. Gahhhhh, I’m the worst when it comes to endings!! This is the LAST book of Emma St. Clair's Love Clichés series and reading it was sooooo bittersweet! The dynamic and chemistry between introverted Rhys and extroverted Sam drew me in right away from the very beginning; and even though the slow burn had me superrrrr impatient at times, it was totally worth it.
As far as content goes: Suggestive material/innuendos. The "only one bed" trope made an appearance (which I lovedddd) but no worries regarding that. Brief nudity (side character) that wasn't descriptive or sexual (it was meant to be funny). There was no on-page sex, but it was talked about/implied between different characters. Rhys had past/present struggles with his mom parents, but none of those problems were triggering for me...however, others might feel differently. I don't remember anything else?? I would describe the book as a "PG-13 romance movie."
Time to share some IMPORTANT points!
1: Okay, but the way Rhys takes care of Lucas?? OH MY GOSH. It’s too precious.
2: I love that he’s secretly shy.
3: Well, James is NOT staying in his lane and honestly...I’m here for it.
4: Being allergic to silence is something I can relate too lol. Talking to everything and anything?? YEPPPPO.
5: The Killer nickname is cuteeeee.
6: Pinkiesssss.
7: Taylor is a real one.
8: And I was really missing the interaction between the friend group righttttt before the video chat happened, which I absolutely loved!
9: That buildup for the first kiss (and the kiss itself, obviously) WAS UNBELIEVABLE. Incredible. I’m so happy with how it happened. Gahhhhhh.
10: The costume shop. THE COSTUME SHOP. I became even more devastated by Rhys.
11: I couldn’t stand Rhys’ mother, in all honesty.
12: Thayden is still my favorite guy from the series, but Rhys is a veryyyy close second.
13: I feel like I should admit that I actually don't find Ryan Gosling attractive. 🙈
*Just a little note, I know there's a bonus scene to fill in some storyline blanks, but I think I would've liked to see that scene in the actual book as a flashback...just to help tie everything in more.*
Despite the rocky start for Rhys and Sam's relationship, they ended up having something so pure and wonderful with each together...I'm a hardcore #RhySam shipper. There were a few things that threw me for a loop (I had suspicions, but still) and other things that felt rushed/unresolved; but I still really, REALLY loved the book.
I’m not ready to say goodbye to these amazing characters that Emma has created, but I’m SO excited to say hello to her new characters!
To Emma (Kirsten), thank you for writing such a sweet, heartfelt series full of love and laughter! 💗
