I don't know why I have the urge to read Russian novels in January, but I do. This one was good, and, although it also had a lot of secondary themes which weren't as interesting as the main story, it was easier to read than Anna Karenina. Somehow, my idea of the book was quite different than what it turned out to be, but it was still a terrifically cold and complex Russian novel.
