Story Thieves by James Riley

5.0

Owen is a big reader, his mom is a librarian so he always has a book on him. Bethany’s mom has forbidden her from books, since the disappearance of her father, it’s the only way her mom can keep her safe. Bethany has the power to go in and out of books, and when Owen sees her literally disappear he knows that this means he can visit his favorite books! Bethany doesn’t want Owen to know, or go with her into any books, but he has a point. There is a finding spell in one of Owen’s favorite series, and if she wants to find her dad she should use the spell. Owen has other plans aside from helping Bethany, and he of course gets his wish when everything gets messed up. With tons of references to popular kids’ books, this book gets really meta really fast. There were times where I had to put it down to just take a breather from it all. Going in and out of books, and meeting the author of those books, and references to the actual author of the book we are really reading, and and and...... it got out of hand in parts. Still fun and different this is a book that readers will love, since it’s all about books that people love and of course as all readers know, the issues that come with getting what you want. For fourth grade on up this is a book for book lovers!
