The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston

5.0

This book made me miss something that I have never had before. The relationship that is described is such a perfect friend to lovers, although it was a quick transition. The nickname, the cooking, and the slow dancing in the kitchen made me ache for a relationship as heartfelt as this one. The magical realism aspect was great, the fact that it takes you to the person that it believes you need in that moment is so amazing. We never get an explanation of how the apartment does this but I don’t think we need one. One thing about books like this is that not everything needs an explanation to make them as magical as they are!
This book made me understand grief that I have never felt before. It also felt like the most real book that I have read in a long time, even with the magical aspect. I felt at home, and I think that is what every book should allow readers to have in their world.
Ashley Posten wrote a quote that represents my relationship with this book and many others:
“I loved how a book, a story, a set of words in a sentence organized in the exact right order, made you miss places you’ve never visited, and people you’ve never met.”
In Conclusion, I loved how everything tied together at the end. I want an Iwan in my life, and I hope to find one soon.
