I picked up a Dystopian Novel Anthology for a dollar or so one day, and I just started reading it. I thought it was short stories, but it’s full novels, and this book is the first one. This is the first in a new series (everything is a series these days) about the end of the world. It’s sort of a zombie tale, but with a twist – the zombies are alive and fully human, they’re just cannibals. Something, they never go into it much what, has killed off everyone who was younger than or older than puberty. They knew this was coming, as it happened pretty slowly, and our main character Bryn’s dad prepared her in survival tactics and supplies, and had her in krav magna since she was little (I guess that was unrelated, yet lucky). She’s alone, just one of many teens left alive, and she ends up teaming up with a couple of other teens, and they’re trying to get to s safe spot they can make home, finding food, and avoiding becoming food to those Canners (cannibal kids, also sometimes referred to as Zombies). Some of the ways things were written made it clear it is a Young Adult series and seemed akward and cheesy, but overall it’s enjoyable for adults to read, and the characters were likable and I want to know what happens next. The end was more the ending of a chapter than a book, and I will be reading the second in this series soon. It's more of a 3 1/2 than a solid three.
