I'm a bit torn on this one, the premise was solid, the logic was flawed, the internal struggle of Ax is interesting, the ending felt rushed, so I'm going smack in the middle here with 3-3.5 stars.  The whole idea of z-space is...a lot.  Fun concept I suppose but definitely more sci-fi heavy.  Ax's POVs are very good, especially when interacting as a human and we get more of his coming to terms with his new found family here, which is very sweet.  Again, these books deal with some very heavy themes for children's books.
