Meet Me in the Middle by Alex Light

4.0

Thanks so much to Epic Reads for the free advance reader's copy of "Meet Me in the Middle"! Here's what I thought about the book: SPOILERS

Meet Me in the Middle did such a fantastic job tackling grief, especially when you grieve those that are still alive. I believe this can resonate with many people, especially those who have friends and family affected by illnesses that are terminal, such as cancer.

I also adored Eden and Truman and how they handled their complicated and tragic situation. It was so mature of them to part ways as they did and I honestly hope that many people can learn from their experience. I will definitely be rooting for them to find each other again in the future!

One aspect that I hope can also resonate with people was how Eden and Truman felt so lost and didn't have a predetermined path in life. One of my favorite quotes was, "It's exhausting to feel as if you have no control over the path your life takes" (p.24). As a recent college grad myself during the pandemic, I felt and still feel this way. It was so nice to hear that other people are also in my position and that I'm not alone. I feel like so many YA books focus on teens who know what they want to do that it's immensely refreshing to get this very real and raw perspective.

Overall, I really enjoyed Meet Me in the Middle. The information about the accident and Eden's past was given as needed and I'm glad there wasn't any oversharing. It also had a perfect resolution for the story it was telling. Although I wanted a happy ending (doesn't everyone?), I completely understand and agree with why Alex Light ended it the way she did. I now have to read her other book for sure!
