I think I’m going to like the later books in the series more than this one. I enjoyed the concept (notorious female pirate travelling the Indian Ocean), the setting and the characters, but the plot was lacking for most of the book. The second half picked up the pace, but I still struggled to understand the magic system - it felt like the rules were changing as we were going along, but I imagine the later books will have more consistency. So much potential in this series, and I look forward to reading more!
