Mary Ventura and the Ninth Kingdom: A Story by Sylvia Plath
3.0
So this is just a short story - it's 40 pages and really would be about half that if a regular font size and standard margins were used. The copy I read is priced at ten dollars - that is steep for a short story. This should just be added to some of Plath's collected works. It is not a bad story, but it is a short story written while she was still in college and it shows. There is too much implied information and forced mysteriousness to ever gain the reader's interest. And then, just when action may pick up, it is all over - because it is a short story. It is interesting simply because so little of Plath's fiction writing exists, but otherwise would be easily forgotten.
