Shadowhouse Fall by Daniel José Older
5.0
Shadowhouse Fall is the anticipated sequel to Shadowshaper. Sierra is under the delusion that things are back to normal and she can go on like any normal teenager...friends, boyfriend, and family. Shockingly the few months reprieve she's had from shadowshaping is over and all hell breaks loose. A magical deck of cards comes into play and it means that the various houses are trying to get them in order to win the top spot and be the supernatural house in power. The problem is Mina, the spy from house of Light has given the deck to Sierra, putting a great big target on Sierra and The Shadowhouse. Once again Daniel Jose Older uses his hometown of Brooklyn and the local vernacular of teens there. He does an amazing job of mixing fantasy and realistic fiction, including the current political atmosphere of the United and States, like Black Lives Matter. Older's prose continue to be beautiful and that really comes through in the second half of the book. I'm very excited to continue reading this series, but knowing this one isn't out yet means it's going to be a long wait
