"You call me a monster because I won't let you treat me like my life is worthless, a thing to be used and thrown away? You call me a monster because I refuse to live the way you think I deserve? If that's what you mean by monster, watch me be monstrous."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This book fixed many of the problems I had with the last one, so naturally I thought it was amazing.

The last book was sourly lacking in sweet/endearing character moments. I liked Tau, but I didn't care about him because he didn't really feel human to me. In this book, I adore him the way I feel I was supposed to in the last one. It was a great choice to give him more characters to build relationships with, and it really helped me get more invested in this book.

There are also more prominent female characters, and while I LOVE THIS, it really exacerbates my complaints with Zuri. She felt so motionless last book, like she lived and died for Tau's character arc, and it still feels bad to know that the most important woman (one of maybe two, by the way) in The Rage of Dragons was truly THAT expendable. Tsiora is interesting, compelling, and multi-faceted, so I know it's possible! Glad that something changed, but it's still a shame.

I want to say that it has been a while since a book has made me feel such anger. I love how complex the political and humane side of this world is (it is very realistic), and I love that it can invoke such strong emotions in me. I was yelling at Tau to kill more people all the time in these pages, even if no one else agreed with me. And while I am on this train of thought, FUCK JABARI with his "Lekan was my brother, I can't believe you killed him" bullshit. The nobles getting away with everything is truly infuriating, and I think Tau should get to murder one rich asshole a day, for my sake.

Anyways, I need the next book out now! I'm glad I read it so late so that I didn't have to wait the four-ish years. Let there be more violence to come!
