the author’s writing is singular, beautiful. the novel itself is difficult - witnessing what becomes a toxic, obsessive relationship FAR beyond the point of (this reader’s) initial discomfort, discerning What All This Means against the (fascinating if not terribly familiar to me) backdrop of East Germany’s final years as such. but the beauty of the sentences alone could carry me just about anywhere.
