Another fantastic historical fiction novel by this author. One of the book's strengths is that it transports readers to this turbulent time in US history. Although readers may be aware of the negative sentiment surrounding the Vietnam War, the thought of people denying that women/nurses served was shocking. Frankie's friendship with Barb and Ethel is another asset to this novel.
While having love interests should not a total turn off for this book, it does make Frankie a frustrating protagonist at times. Her knowing the relationship with Rye was wrong and continuing with it is a bit annoying. It is understandable that she would be angry with her parents for not supporting her decision to serve in Vietnam, but sometimes her frustration is a bit off putting.
