A potent and powerful short story. Zweig uses the minimum to create maximum effect. This was startling in its emotional resonance, and is the kind of story you could read repeatedly and still come away with new thoughts. The prose is beautiful. I was struck by the way Zweig uses his words, and how little he tells you while showing you the most possible. Just perfect, in every sense.
