The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

2.0

The first half of the book was very slow and filled with stereotypical characters. I was immediately turned off when Cora talked about being 16 and getting pregnant when Ernt was 25. No matter that this was a book about domestic violence and PTSD and set several decades ago, that part just brought it to a level of creepiness that seemed unnecessary and irresponsible for something written in 2018.

This book also read more like young adult to me. I thought the descriptions of Alaska itself were great but otherwise there was an immaturity to the writing style that, although I enjoy YA, just didn’t seem to work with the book.

This is my second book by the author and won’t keep me from trying out her other works, but I cannot say I recommend this one.
