switterbeet 's review for:
The Princess Diarist
by Carrie Fisher
Listened to this as an audiobook, which I'm glad I did because it was delightful to hear Carrie Fisher's narration, and it lent a lot to the experience. Like listening to a friend tell a hilarious and emotional story, versus reading a letter from them.
I was hoping for an autobiography of most of Carrie Fisher's life, but it sort of begins near the beginning, focuses on the Star Wars filming period, without too much reflection on later years, except how they were influenced by her being in Star Wars, being Leia, etc.
There's a lot to be said for not meeting your heroes. Carrie Fisher is definitely NOT Leia, but that's ok. She's pretty interesting and awesome in her own way - the way she phrases things is artistic and witty. Harrison Ford, on the other hand... does not come off really well.
