The Trial of God: (as It Was Held on February 25, 1649, in Shamgorod) by Elie Wiesel
Wiesel's play is powerful and provocative that addresses the question of how a just God permits evil in the world. Diverse perspectives are provided over the course of the drama. Wiesel's view seems apparent, but the reader is ultimately left to decide for themselves. Given the subject matter and surrounding events (eastern European pogroms), as well as the overhanging specter of Wiesel's experiences during the Holocaust, this pay can be a difficult read. Still, it is worthwhile for anyone interested in these theological questions.
