One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez

5.0

This book had been sitting in my shelves for almost three years– because I was really intimidated by its topic and its small fonts, haha. To read it was very tempting because I used to see it recommended everywhere on reading community but it was also frightening to start. However I finally picked it up from my shelves due to quarantine and God– do I love it. The story is indeed complicated since it has 20 characters named Aureliano, but there's something magical about it that kept me going. This book is said to pave a way for the genre of Magical Realism, and I think it really deserves that title. Macondo is such a magical yet mundane place... And it amazes me how detailed every characters are and how each storyline leads to another storylines. It's all connected. No characters are totally black or white, they're all grey and there's always consequence to every little thing they do.

This is my first Gabo ever–and I cannot wait to read more of his!
