I hover between 3 and 4 stars for this book. On the one hand the writing is impeccable, and the plot brilliant. It's unique from what I have read before and highly enjoyable, but with some pitfalls for myself. The third person narrative makes it hard to fully appreciate each character and their motives, as a result there're no characters one likes here.
It seems decisive whether this is a tragic love story or not, and while I see the love story here for me it's much darker than that. While Heathcliff was hard done by in his youth his long-term revenge is so brutal it borders on horror, when you watch John Wick you root for him, but I can’t see many people rooting for Heathcliff.

It's definitely one to read again and explore, for now I’ll stick with 3.5 but appreciate that might go up in the future.
