Beyond the Bright Sea by Lauren Wolk

I thoroughly enjoyed this YA historical fiction about Crow and Osh. Osh is a refugee from the mainland, living off the islands of Cape Cod in the early 20th Century. Crow washed ashore near Osh's refuge as a small baby, clutching only a scrap of paper. Osh, Crow and their cat, Mouse, live simply, but comfortably enough with the help of their nearest neighbor, Miss Maggie, who takes care of Crow's education. One day, when Crow sees a fire off nearby Penikese Island, she begins to ask questions about who she is and where she came from.
