Atonement is one of my favorite movies ever. The cinematography 😍😍. The story 😭😭. I’ve always meant to read the book, which is written by Ian McEwan, but why is it so hard to sit down with a book after you’ve already seen the movie or show adaptation?? So when his book, LESSONS, came out couple years ago, I knew I wanted to read it. But I was a tad intimidated by it (just flip through the physical book, long chapters and crazy long paragraphs), so I put it off. ⁣

Well, I finally read it (listened to it actually) and… I was so disappointed! ☹️ I didn’t love it at all. I was bored. I didn’t like anyone. There were little moments that held my interest, but truthfully the thing I felt most while reading this was boredom. And let me tell you how much I wanted to walk away from this book with a 5 star rating, I wanted that so badly. It just wasn’t that for me.⁣

Things I could appreciate: Ian McEwan is clearly a ridiculously talented writer, even if it didn’t work for me. Also the backdrop of the Iron Curtain was something I haven’t read a lot of. ⁣

🎧 The audiobook is long, 17.5 hours long, but was for-sure the only way I was going to get through this one. ⁣

Anyway, I’m sad I didn’t love this. I really wanted to. And I still want to read Atonement some day.
