Legendary by Stephanie Garber
5.0
once again stephanie garber has done it. if i could live in any fantasy world, it would be caraval (i just would ask that they add more clowns.)
i was hesitant when starting because i really did not care to learn more about tella, but i ended up loving her character so much more than scarlett. seeing her grow and mature throughout the book was beautiful. when she said "i'm sorry we view this so differently..." i lost it. she is so emotionally mature and knows when to stick up for herself and not apologize. <3
i 100% did not see dante being legend whatsoever, lol. in caraval, i kept expecting julian to be legend but for some reason my brain rejected dante as legend. it was such a heart-wrenching twist. i really loved the relationship between dante and tella so much. it was so beautiful.
things I could've done without in the book was tella's mom giving up her second born and tella's anguish over it. idk if this whole plot point really added to the story. also, i genuinely couldn't stand jacks. always eating apples and being a douche.
i totally called it last book with the vampires with the not aging thing. now we learn power is transferred through blood, so i feel like even though they're never called vampires, they're pretty close to being vampire-adjacent. especially how jacks "glows" as a fate.
garber's prose is next-level, too. "night and his mistress the moon were both out to play." EXCUSE ME, THIS IS BEAUTIFULLL! so many highlights for astounding language like this.
