This book started slow, and got too slow in some points for me but really picked up towards the end and had me feeling for this character. 
You feel what the character feels, and the whole book seems to be covered in a nostalgic haze which is almost painful. I didn’t agree with the character sometimes and the way he acted but still felt for him.
