I really loved the shifting in mood from the beginning to the end of this book. It’s great. Aysel, haunted by her father’s crimes and how her town expects her to go crazy too, searches for a suicide partner and finds Roman who's haunted by the death of his sister whose death he blames himself for. It’s a very powerful book that I believe pinpoints what it’s like to suffer from depression and suicidal thoughts, a black slug in the pit of your stomach, a black hole. I really liked those comparisons.

In the beginning, Aysel is, how to put it, nonchalant, apathetic, set in her ways. She typically believes that no one will miss her and it’s better if she’s gone. Roman’s pretty much the same, although opposite from Aysel. But they hang out, they talk it out, they understand, and they have chemistry. Eventually, you can see the transition from, “I can’t wait until they don’t have me here anymore.” to “And I want to be alive.” Even Roman kind of gets the same idea, (spoiler alert) that he tries to kill himself alone to save Aysel from the burden of dying together. This is a great book that is definitely worth reading.
