Letters to Milena by Franz Kafka

4.0

reading letters is so intimate for me. It's like looking through one's emotions, ups and down, failures and victories. You can't lie in letters. You can't fake the emotions in letters. And Kafka delivered with these letters.

The rawness in the letter and the emotions expressed in them was pressing on me. I needed to breathe whenever I finished one. I feel like I was leaving a part of me when I read every letter. I was bleeding on the pages, tears and blood mixing with the words by Kafka.

What makes it more compelling is that we only see the letters addressed to Kafka, because the letter written by Milena were destroyed. It added the feeling of how much one sided this love affair was, the feeling that Kafka was talking to himself and hallucinating the whole thing.
