Purgatorio by Dante Alighieri
4.0
The book is a classic. That much is obvious, but I have to say that I really did enjoy this. (Okay, maybe not as much as Inferno, but I have a somewhat twisted mind.) What I do admire is the symmetry of Dante. I am looking forward to reading Paradiso, so I can see if the symmetry somehow continues into heaven. Dante is certainly creative in his "punishments" and that really does make you want to keep reading to find out what's in store for the next group of people. An interesting discussion point would be which punishment (or purging, rather) would be the worst to you? Does that correspond with what you think your besetting sin is?
Anyway, it's allegorical but still a fascinating idea.
