katiez624 's review for:
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
by Barbara Kingsolver
Even though the beginning started a little preachy, as the year went on, I became completely invested in the family's goal of growing their own food and purchasing from local sources. I know more about growing food and buying locally than ever before. Kingsolver was able to give ideas to take both small and big steps toward taking care of our environment, being more cognizant of where our food came from and how it was created, and the importance of supporting small businesses in lieu of large corporations.
The last chapter about the turkeys was laugh out loud funny. I really appreciate books that are both riveting and informative. The essays by Stephen and Camille also added a refreshing element to the long chapters, and I am really impressed how many gifted writers they have in one family.
