The Young Alexander: The Making of Alexander the Great by Alex Rowson

challenging informative reflective medium-paced

3.75

I enjoyed this non fiction on Alexander The Great that focused on his early years up to the point at which he begins his Persian invasion. I didn't know much at all about this period of his life and there was a lot to tell! The Book also covers quite a bit of his father, Philip's, own exploits which definitely help to paint a better picture of Alexander and the context for which he grew up and was later able to conquer the Persian empire. The author included a lot of commentary on archaeological endeavours that directly relate, sometimes going into too much descriptive detail! However, the author did have a lovely poetic way of describing locations and scenes which made it enjoyable to read.
