lucyp21 's review for:
You Let Me In
by Lucy Clarke
I can't remember why I bought this book but the blurb was intriguing, the reviews were good, so I picked it up.
In this book, Elle rents out her house on Air Bnb and then comes back to find everything subtly different. Things moved behind locked doors, things taken out of place, books written in and there's nothing concrete to point to. Elle thinks it might be her imagination running away from her but things start to get a lot more sinister.
This book had everything you want from a thriller, a varied range of characters, a main character you could root for even if she wasn't completely likeable all the time, a twist ending that you could have seen coming if you had picked up the clues - but it just didn't grab me. I appreciated it as a book and I liked the ending, especially the conclusion to one of the mysterieswhere we find Elle didn't make a false rape accusation but everyone thought she did because I was so expecting it to go the other way and was so glad it didn't. Also the epilogue where Fiona stole her book and published it, therefore leaving the two of them with secrets to hold over the other was something I really liked because it didn't just leave us hanging like a lot of thrillers do. We got to see how the main character coped with the revelations of the last couple of chapters and how she has changed as a person because of it.
This is one I would recommend but it just didn't strike me. If I hadn't been reading it for a reading challenge, I think I would have stopped at about 30% and probably not picked it up again.
3 stars!
