Out of the 3 books by Mieko Kawakami, this one is my favorite! However, what keeps it from being a 5-star read for me is my desire to know more about the lives of Midoriko and Makiko (I love a complicated mother-daughter relationship). Yep, because they are not the main characters, the story mainly focuses on Natsuko, and to be honest, I'm somewhat disinterested in Natsuko's life as the main character.
