I suppose this romance falls under the umbrella of fake dating by having the two main characters pretend that they're still engaged. I generally don't like this trope, and it was extra frustrating that the characters couldn't just express their feelings and had to wait for things to reach a breaking point to finally confess their emotions and reasons for separating.
On a separate note, as a born and bred Montanan, I am sensitive to representations of my home state by people who don't live here. Long story short, Henry does not meet my standards. What town is within an hour of Bozeman, one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, and has a graduating class of 40 and ranches? If she said that Wyn was from a town outside of Billings, then yeah, there's small agricultural communities that could fit the bill. It's a small detail, but it shows that she doesn't care to research and properly represent the places in her books. I suspect that Mainers have a bone to pick with how she depicted their home turf.
