The Long Game by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

5.0

Holy non-stop action Batman. That was one wild and twisty ride of a read.
The plot was so well done. The unpredictable turns in the story keep the reader from getting too comfortable (or bored), while the sharp moments of betrayal are such a punch to the gut. And the tension in the story stays pitch perfect throughout the novel- high enough to keep one on edge, but not so high that you become worn out.
As with the first book in the series, the characters were nicely executed- real, flawed people, not black and white cut-outs.
Overall, I wish all sequels were so well constructed. I think I enjoyed it even more than the original.
Fingers crossed that Jennifer Lynn Barnes writes more in this series.

2019 Update:
Despite knowing how all the who's and why's, I still enjoyed rereading this novel. My only wish is that there would be another book in The Fixer series so certain bad people can get their just dues. I would especially love to see a sequel that takes place a few years in the future. Maybe one day-fingers crossed.
